The economic impact of the craft brewing industry in Iowa surpassed $100 million in 2014 that resulted in creating 1,500 jobs and increasing personal income by nearly $42 million, according to a study report.
“The craft beer industry is one of Iowa’s emerging manufacturing segments,” said Megan McKay, a member of the Iowa Wine and Beer Promotion Board.
“Craft beer drinkers represent a wide range of ages and interests, meaning the industry will continue to grow, enhancing the state’s economy and making jobs for our residents,” she added.
There is also a rise in the number of breweries to 50 in 29 counties that has doubled since 2009 and professional and blue-collar workers are among Iowa craft beer consumers. Ninety two percent of craft breweries in Iowa sell their products at local events and festivals, the study shows.
