DPS Announces Torch Lighting Ceremony for Special Olympics’ Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg

The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) has announced to hold a torch lighting ceremony for the 2015 Special Olympics’ Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg on Thursday, May 21. The torch lighting event will take place at 9:30 a.m. at the Oran Pape State Office Building.

Several law enforcement agencies as well as DPS will run the torch from Des Moines to Ames in line with annual recognition of the significant efforts and achievements of the athletes of Special Olympics by law enforcement agencies around Iowa and the United States.

The Torch Run Final Leg will start just after the opening ceremony from the Oran Pape State Office Building to Ames.

When the torch will reach Ames, the Flame of Hope will be ignited to open the Special Olympics Summer Games that will take place on May 21-23.
