Today, the Iowa Department of Agriculture is reporting three additional probable cases of the bird flu (HPAI) in two Iowa counties. The three possible outbreaks were in commercial poultry farms located in Buena Vista and Sioux counties. These cases would bring the total cases of bird flu in the state to 28. The Secretary of Agriculture’s office confirmed that all birds on the property will be humanely euthanized to prevent the spread of the disease.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Iowa Department of Public Health considers the risk to people from these cases of bird flu to be low and remind us that no human infections with the virus have ever been detected.
