The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the city of Sioux City are jointly going to start pedestrian fatality campaign in Sioux City.
To kick off the campaign, a press conference will take place in Davicheck Hall at the Sioux City Police Department at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1.
The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness among people about pedestrian fatalities.
Pedestrians cause 14 percent of all traffic fatalities in America. In Sioux City, there were 132 pedestrian collisions from 2009 through 2013 that killed 8 and injured 116.
