On Wednesday, Gov. Terry E. Branstad announced that Sioux City had been designated as a Home Base Iowa Community, and Western Iowa Tech Community College as a Home Base Iowa Certified Higher Academic Military Partners (CHAMP).

Now, Sioux City has been included on the list of existing thirteen certified Home Base Iowa Communities. To become designated as a Home Base Iowa Community, an area needs to meet some criteria including local initiatives that provide Veterans additional benefits in keeping the statewide Home Base Iowa Act.

“With 1300 Veterans hired through Home Base Iowa efforts thus far, this program is certainly successful,” said Branstad.

“As these communities have demonstrated, Iowans are embracing the Home Base Iowa initiative to create communities that are welcoming and attractive to Veterans and to provide transitioning military members with every opportunity for success,” he added.

Western Iowa Tech Community College has been added to the current HBI CHAMPs through the announcement of Branstad.
