The National Program for Playground Safety (NPPS) at the University of Northern Iowa has announced to celebrate National Playground Safety Week to assess the present status of outdoor play spaces. The week will be observed from April 20 to April 24.
A project named Assessment of Iowa’s Early Childhood Outdoor Play Environments will be implemented by NPPS together with National Playground Safety Week. Through the project, NPPS will assess the present condition of outdoor play spaces in public early childhood programs in the state of Iowa. The project aims at ensuring that safety standards are maintained in playground areas.
Every year two awards are given to those who have considerable contribution to ensuring safety playground for children. An individual, who has significant contributions, receives the Ahren’s Playground Safety Advocate of the Year award and the John Preston Safe Playground Award is announced for a group or organization.
By tradition, the names of recipients of the awards will be declared during Playground Safety Week.
