T.J. Otzelberger, former Iowa State assistant basketball coach, will rejoin the Cyclones program. Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg made the announcement on Wednesday.
WHOtv reports that after serving the University of Washington for the last two seasons as an assistant coach, Otzelberger is returning the previous position as an assistant coach. He worked at Iowa State from 2006 to 2013. He spent under Greg McDermott for first four years under and last three years under Fred Hoiberg.
Hoiberg said, “I’m excited to have T.J. rejoin our staff.”
“His familiarity with our program and Iowa State University will help us to have a seamless transition. T.J. is a proven coach and recruiter and he will be very valuable to our coaching staff,” he added.
During his previous turn with the Cyclones, Oltzelberger played a major role in the recruiting process. 2014 Big 12 Player of the Year Melvin Ejim, Mike Taylor, Diante Garrett, Craig Brackins and other quality players were recruited that time.
T.J. Otzelberger will step into the shoes of now former Iowa State assistant coach Matt Abdelmassih who announced to return to his former St. John’s.
