Alison Bechdel, a cartoonist and recipient of the MacArthur “Genius” Award, will deliver a lecture on “Drawing Lessons: the Comics of Everyday” at Iowa State University. The presentation will take place on April 9 at the Memorial Union Great Hall that will start at 8 p.m.
Bechdel has drawn comics for The New York Times Book Review, Granta, Slate Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and McSweeney’s. She is the editor of “Best American Comics 2011. Her work is translated and anthologized widely.
Bechdel has a writing career of 30 years. Her graphic memoir “Fun Home” (2006) was selected one of the best books of the year by Publishers Weekly, Time magazine, The Times of London and The New York Times. Her another graphic memoir is “Are You My Mother?: A Comic Drama” written in 2012.
She was selected a 2014 MacArthur Fellow for her outstanding creativity in her work and the prospect of future contribution.
